Sex Toy Review: Body & Soul Remote 1

This month the fine folks at California Exotics sent me a wireless remote controlled egg called Body & Soul Remote 1 to review.

First of all, I love remote controlled sex toys for couples play.  The first time I got one was as a birthday present a few years ago.  My partner, Ken, had me open my gift right before we were heading out the door for an evening on the town.  He then requested (okay, more like hotly demanded) I insert it before we left.  Weeee!

Through hours of shopping and dinner he had a blast controlling the remote and secretly teasing me.  The remote we had at the time resembled the kind for a car lock/alarm.  At one point he went up to the hostess of the restaurant where we were dining and pretended the button on his car alarm remote was stuck.  He said, “Excuse me, you have long nails— can you do me a favor?  The button on this is sticking and I can’t get it to budge.  Would you mind trying to see if you might be able to get it un-stuck?”

As she pressed the button I turned red . . . and got turned on! After being teased with that thing all night, I was in such a state of arousal by the time I got home. It was a good birthday!

I’ve used quite a few wireless eggs in the years since and I was excited to find out how the Body & Soul 1 would stack up.

Let’s start with the pros:

The Body & Soul is phthalate free which is a must in my book.  It’s also waterproof sex toy which is also becoming a feature I prefer more and more.

It has 10 presets with various vibration patterns that are similar to some of the complex patterns available in luxury brands like Lelo or JimmyJane.  I was also quite pleased to find the remote wasn’t “touchy” at all.  When my partner clicked the button, the egg responded immediately and changed vibrations. This isn’t always the case in remote control toys, sometimes you press and press and nothing happens.  I’ve even had touchy remote issues in luxury brands so it was a pleasant surprise to see that level of quality in this toy.  The digital display is also very easy to read so if someone else is changing the settings they know exactly when it has changed and what level the toy is on.

The cons:

The batteries! The more I use rechargeable toys the less I like battery operated ones.  This one really irked me because rather than taking AA or AAA’s, it operates with 1 12v and 2 N-size batteries.  Those specialty batteries are expensive and not something I regularly have on hand in my kitchen battery drawer.  Luckily this toy is sold with batteries included so I didn’t have to go out and buy them off the bat.

The instruction booklet says to remove the batteries when the Body & Soul 1 is not in use.  Who actually does that?  I know I don’t. Well, with this toy it’s a MUST.  I learned that the hard way.  The second time I went to go use it, the 2 N-size batteries in the egg portion were completely dead.  I turned off the remote control after I was done using it but that apparently doesn’t matter.  If you don’t remove the batteries from the egg part, they will continue to drain.  So off to the store I went to buy more ridiculously priced weird sized batteries *sigh*

The second big drawback to this toy is the vibrations.  They are definitely on the weaker side.  Keep in mind, I like A LOT of intense vibrations.  This one just wasn’t cutting it for me. I’d classify the vibration intensity at a low to medium.  I’m someone who needs extra high/intense power to get off.  I found the lack of intensity to be a bigger problem when I was using it as a clit vibrator.  I used it a number of times on my clit– I tried and tried but no cigar.

When I was using the Body and Soul Remote 1 internally with my partner, the weak vibrations weren’t so much of an issue. I don’t ever get off from internal vibrations nor do I expect to.  Wearing it internally is strictly for purposes of being teased which it did sufficiently.  Could it have been stronger?  Sure.  But it was still pleasant and did a fine job of working me up.

The big clincher to me is the price.  This is the type of vibrating egg I’d use on an occasional basis with a partner.  I wouldn’t use it to orgasm, but rather just as a little bit of secret titillation while we were out on a date. If this toy was in the $30ish range I’d find it well worth it for its purpose.  The suggested retail price on this toy is $62.99! No. For that price I’d want more intensity so I could use it more often as a clit masturbator.

My final word:

If you are looking for a fun playful way to connect with your partner, plan to use it only occasionally and can find it on sale (I have seen it around the net on sale for $30-40 on occasion)— go for The Body & Soul Remote 1.

If you like lots of intense vibration, futzing with batteries makes you batty or you’re looking for a everyday type toy— pass on this one.  If your budget allows, you would be better off with something like the Lelo Insignia Lyla 2.

Regardless of the model you choose, remote controlled sex toys are a great way to bring couples together and add a little bit of spice and adventure to your sexytime routine.  Not only is it arousing but it also gives you an opportunity to experiment with a power exchange dynamic.  With one partner being in control and the other at their whim, it opens up role-playing opportunities and provides a platform for light dominant/submissive scenarios.

Wireless eggs can be used in any type of coupling: man/woman, woman/woman or man/man.  Just make sure to never put a remote controlled toy in the anus unless it has a flared base!  You don’t want to be an emergency room statistic (remember the Ducky Doolittle video, “Not in your butt?“)!  For anal play buy a remote that has an optional flared base anal sheath like Genius Secret Vibe Egg/Anal Plug.

Until my next review, Happy Orgasms!
